KotorArt and Accordion: Young Virtuosos Thrill the Audience

The KotorArt festival and the Music Academy from Cetinje have once again proven that Montenegro is home to exceptional musical talents! At a concert held under the KotorArt Talents platform, students from the accordion department, led by Professor Predrag Janković, amazed the audience with their virtuoso performances.

Young artists such as Milena Drašković, Hristina Merdović, Igor Poturica, Lazar Janjušević, Dimitrije Knežević, and Marko Radivojišić took turns on stage, performing works by great composers like Tchaikovsky, Scarlatti, Voron, Ramo, Semjonov, and Glas Belmana. The concert concluded with all performers joining together in an accordion sextet, rounding off a rich and diverse program.

Marko Radivojišić, one of the students, expressed how honored and valuable the experience was to perform at such a prestigious festival, especially in chamber music settings that foster better connection and understanding among musicians. He emphasized that they performed many compositions the audience likely had not heard before, including numerous transcriptions specially adapted for accordion.

The collaboration between the KotorArt festival and the Music Academy has lasted many years, based on a shared belief that young artists deserve more opportunities for public performances. The Music Academy of the University of Montenegro, founded in 1980, is the most important higher education music institution in the country, with a mission to develop musical creativity and educate young professionals according to modern European standards.

Professor Predrag Janković expressed great satisfaction with his class’s performance, proud of their notable renditions spanning different epochs and genres, from Baroque to contemporary music. He highlighted that the audience in Kotor had the chance to enjoy a varied and rich program performed at a very high level.

The concert was also supported by Uniqa Insurance, a company recognized for its social responsibility, actively contributing to community development and acknowledging the importance of culture and education.

This concert is not just a musical event but proof that investing in young talents pays off. If you missed this opportunity, it’s time to ask yourself — where are the young artists today, and why don’t we give them more space? And you, dear readers, what do you think about such initiatives? Is culture and art sufficiently supported in our country? Drop a comment, maybe your word will spark a new musical revolution!
