Kragujevac Water Crisis: Only Three Public Fountains Safe to Drink From!

Kragujevac Water Crisis: Only Three Public Fountains Safe to Drink From!

Do you drink water from public fountains in Kragujevac? You might want to think twice! The latest microbiological tests of water from ten public fountains in the city are shocking – only three fountains have water safe for drinking! Yes, you read that right, only THREE out of TEN!

Which fountains are safe?

According to official data from the city website, safe water was found at fountains in Šumarice, Divostin, and Teferič. All others, including those in Kosančić, Belosavac, Kapovac, Petrovac, Bukurovac, and Grujina fountain in Bubanj, showed microbiological contamination.

How did this happen?

The Public Health Institute took samples on July 8, and the results were published on July 15. Clearly, maintenance and water quality control in Kragujevac are on shaky ground. Is this due to poor upkeep, source pollution, or something else? The city has not provided detailed explanations, but the fact that 70% of public fountains are unsafe to drink from is alarming.

What does this mean for residents?

Imagine being thirsty and wanting to fill your bottle from a public fountain – there’s a 7 in 10 chance you’re drinking dirty, potentially dangerous water! This is not just unpleasant but a health hazard. Various infections and diseases are possible, especially for children and the elderly.

Is the city doing anything?

Unfortunately, apart from publishing the results, there is no clear information on plans to fix the problem. Maintenance work on Republic Square is scheduled for July 16, but that has no direct connection to water quality. The public deserves urgent action and transparency!

What do you think?

Is this just the tip of the iceberg? How many other public water sources in Serbia hide such dangers? Is it time for all of us to start carrying bottled water or demand urgent repairs? Share your thoughts, maybe together we can push the authorities to act!

Meanwhile, if you’re in Kragujevac, better check before you refresh yourself at a public fountain. Or, you know, just buy that bottle of water and don’t risk it – health comes first!

Fun fact: Did you know that at the same time, a fire broke out in Batajnica and a shooting happened in Novi Pazar? Kragujevac might have water problems, but at least it’s never boring!
