Lavender in Deliblato: Young Stefan is Changing the Game in Serbia

In the heart of the Deliblato Sands, where nature still keeps its secrets, a young man from Belgrade, Stefan Atanasković, decided to plant lavender and start a business that smells like success. Just three years ago, starting modestly on one plot, Stefan planted nearly one hectare of lavender, and today his products are conquering the internet and tourists from Russia, Switzerland, and nearby areas.

But it’s not all as easy as it seems. Stefan and his family do all the work by hand – from planting, weeding, to harvesting and distilling. Lavender is not just a beautiful plant; it’s a small factory of healing oils, soaps, candles, and floral water. English lavender is known for its calming effects, while French lavender shines in skin care.

Still, lavender production in Serbia is in its infancy. Stefan is one of the few who saw the opportunity in this business. His farm is becoming a tourist attraction, and the lavender field in full bloom in June looks like a scene from a fairy tale.

The plans are big – Stefan wants to expand production to several more plots. All this while battling manual labor and the limitations of a small business in Serbia.

This young entrepreneur shows that something beautiful and useful can be made in our country, but the question is how many are ready to persevere. Will the state and society support such initiatives or leave them to fight alone?

If you ever wanted to see lavender in full bloom or try natural products from Serbia, Stefan’s farm in Deliblato is a place you must visit. And if you have any tips or experience with lavender growing, feel free to share – maybe you know how to take this business to the next level!
