Leona Popović: The Warrior’s Comeback on the Snowy Slopes!
Ready for a story about true sports grit? Croatian skier Leona Popović didn’t just survive a brutal knee injury – she’s coming back stronger than ever! In mid-December last year, she underwent a successful surgery by the renowned Prof. Dr. Christian Fink in Innsbruck, where her medial meniscus was stitched and her anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed.
The Injury and Surgery
Leona injured her knee during slalom training in Killington, USA, in November. The surgery was necessary and performed in Austria, where a team of experts successfully repaired her damage. But that’s just the beginning.
Rehabilitation and Return to Snow
Post-surgery, Leona went through intense rehab at Terme Selce under the watchful eyes of Croatian Ski Federation physiotherapists. Pain-free and gaining confidence, she returned to skiing in May in Kaprun, Austria, then continued training in Les 2 Alpes, France, and Zermatt, Switzerland.
Ready for New Challenges
Full-intensity training is planned for late August in Saas Fee, Switzerland. If all goes well, from September 1st, she’ll join Zrinka Ljutić and Filip Zubčić for preparations in Ushuaia, Argentina. Leona is on track to be fully ready for the new FIS World Cup season starting November 15th in Levi, Finland.
