An epidemic of leptospirosis, an infectious disease transmitted by rodents and commonly spread through contaminated water or soil, is ongoing in Sarajevo Canton. In the last 24 hours, two new cases were reported, bringing the total number of infected to 95. There have been no deaths so far, and currently, no patients are hospitalized at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo. The epidemic was officially declared on May 23. Health authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution, maintain personal hygiene, and avoid contact with suspicious surfaces. The first case of leptospirosis has also been confirmed in Montenegro, indicating the disease’s spread in the region.
