Zaječar has spoken loud and clear! In the local elections held on June 8, the list “We Won’t Give Up Serbia – Aleksandar Vučić” scored a smashing victory with 47.13% of the vote, securing 27 seats in the city assembly. The runner-up list, “Change We Believe In” led by Uglješa Đuričković and Dragana Rašić, lagged behind with 34.23% of the vote and 19 seats. The third list, “United Salvation of Zaječar” headed by Miladin Krstić and Mirko Jelenković, managed only 7.58% and 4 seats.
Out of 47,000 registered voters across 69 polling stations, 30,000 showed up to cast their ballots, marking a decent turnout. The higher court rejected all opposition complaints, confirming the election’s legitimacy. SNS has once again cemented its dominance in this city, while the opposition remains far behind with no real chance of turning the tide.
These results won’t shock anyone who follows Serbian politics, but they do raise eyebrows about political competition and democratic processes in smaller towns. Is this a true reflection of the people’s will, or just the product of well-oiled political machines? Either way, SNS grabbed nearly half the votes and holds a solid majority in the city assembly.
Thought politics in Zaječar was boring? Think again! The opposition tried to fight for their spot but ended up miles behind. SNS showed it has strong support and will keep ruling. What about you? Do you buy these results or think something’s fishy in Serbia? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s who in this political soap opera!
