Luka Modrić in Milan: The Football Veteran Who Refuses to Age

Luka Modrić, the football genius and Ballon d’Or winner, has left Real Madrid after 13 seasons and signed a one-year contract with AC Milan, where he will earn between 3 and 3.5 million euros plus bonuses. Despite turning 40 in September, Modrić refuses to retire and wants to continue playing at the highest level, especially driven by his desire to participate in the World Cup with Croatia.

Milan sees him as the perfect leader and mentor for young talents, especially amid a major midfield overhaul at the club. Italian media highlight that money is not Modrić’s priority; rather, it’s the challenge and desire to stay in top European football.

Interestingly, Modrić turned down lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia to remain in Europe and be ready for the World Cup. His move to Milan is also backed by new coach Massimiliano Allegri, a big admirer of the Croatian veteran.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan parted ways with coach Simone Inzaghi, who signed a two-year deal with Saudi club Al Hilal, where he will reunite with Serbian player Sergej Milinković-Savić. Inzaghi’s salary of around 26 million euros per year makes him the second highest-paid coach in the world, just behind Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid.

Modrić’s transfer to Milan and Inzaghi’s departure from Inter mark major shifts in Italian football, while veteran Modrić is ready to prove that age is just a number in top-tier football.
