Macron and Starmer Lead Coalition to Strengthen Ukraine’s Defense as Trump Admits Failure in Talks with Putin

Macron and Starmer have called a meeting of the coalition of the willing to strengthen Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression. The meeting will be held via video conference from the Northwood base near London, with participation from Ukrainian President Zelensky, German Chancellor Merz, and Italian Prime Minister Meloni. The goal is to boost Ukraine’s combat capabilities, ensure the restoration of its army, and prepare peacekeeping forces for a potential ceasefire that would deter a new Russian offensive. European countries want Ukraine to become strong enough to defend its borders independently while applying diplomatic pressure on Russia for an unconditional ceasefire.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump admitted that no progress was made in talks with Putin to end the war in Ukraine. The U.S. decision to pause certain arms shipments to Ukraine comes as Russian forces continue their offensive and intensify attacks, including massive drone strikes on Kyiv that caused injuries and damage. Ukrainian President Zelensky and Trump discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, but the situation remains tense and uncertain.

The Kremlin confirmed it is closely monitoring Trump’s statements and that Russia will continue its military operation, while peace talks are expected in the coming months. European countries, led by the coalition of the willing, are trying to balance military aid to Ukraine with diplomatic pressure on Russia, but the war continues with heavy human and infrastructural losses.
