French President Emmanuel Macron is not backing down on Ukraine! Speaking in the British Parliament, he made it crystal clear that Europe will never abandon Ukraine. The coalition of Paris and London is fighting to the last moment for a ceasefire and a sustainable peace. But it’s not just Ukraine on the line – Macron also warned about the dangers in the Middle East, where endless war threatens to destabilize the entire region. He stressed that Europe must not have double standards and that a ceasefire is only possible if human lives and territorial integrity are respected.
At the same time, Europe is facing a migration crisis that threatens to tear it apart from within. Greece, under pressure from a surge of migrants from North Africa, is planning drastic measures – from cutting state benefits for asylum seekers to criminally prosecuting those who stay after their applications are rejected. Just on the island of Crete, nearly twice as many migrants arrived in recent weeks than during the entire last year, and the government is considering a law that could detain migrants for up to five years. These measures have sparked sharp criticism, including from the Council of Europe’s Human Rights Commissioner, who warns of risks of torture and human rights violations.
Eurostat data shows migration is the only factor driving population growth in the EU, with a record 1.4 million people contributing to the increase last year. As Europe ages and births decline, migrants are the ones keeping social systems afloat, but also stirring political and social tensions. Some countries are tightening controls, but the problems remain huge.
Macron’s message is clear: Europe must stay united, defend its values and democratic models, and find effective solutions for migration and security. Will Europe manage to avoid chaos or is it on the brink of a new major conflict? Time will tell. What do you think – is Macron a hero or just another politician with empty promises?
