Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Shakes Southern Spain: Airport Roof Collapses, Floods and Aftershocks Cause Chaos!

Southern Spain got a rude awakening early Monday morning! A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast near Cape de Gata in Almeria, and if that wasn’t enough, just hours before, the region was hammered by severe floods and heavy rain.

Airport Roof Comes Crashing Down!

Imagine sipping your morning coffee when suddenly the roof above you collapses! That’s exactly what happened to workers at the Almeria airport. The roof literally gave way, sending a huge cloud of dust everywhere. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the scene was straight out of a disaster movie. Even a Toyota showroom got damaged, and hundreds of towns across Andalusia felt the tremors.

Aftershocks Keep the Fear Alive

Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) recorded 18 aftershocks, with the biggest hitting a magnitude of 3.4 just five hours after the main quake. The ground kept shaking, and panic spread among locals.

Tourist Hotspots Take a Hit

Popular spots like Costa del Sol, Alicante, Granada, Malaga, Murcia, and Albacete were among the hardest hit. This region, famous for its beauty and tourism, now faces serious challenges.

Is This the Start of a New Disaster?

After floods and now an earthquake, residents and tourists are on edge. Is this just bad luck or a warning from Mother Nature?

If you thought natural disasters only happen elsewhere, think again. Southern Spain just proved it’s not immune.
