Ready for another round of “historical truths” that will make you question where the line between reality and propaganda lies? Vladimir Medinsky, assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, has made a claim that’s sure to set the internet and social media on fire: Russia and Ukraine are one people! Yes, you read that right. According to him, the historical fate of these countries is the same, and Ukrainian children don’t need special content in schools because they are supposedly part of the same historical homeland.
One People, One History – Or Just Propaganda?
In an interview with TASS, Medinsky stated that the Russian Military-Historical Society does not create special content for Ukrainian children because they “know, love, and respect the history of the talented and hardworking people of the ancient Russian lands on both sides of the Dnieper, Novorossiya, and Crimea.” So, according to him, Ukrainians and Russians are like brothers, just accidentally found on different sides of a border.
Internet Without Borders?
But that’s not all! Medinsky hopes that Ukrainian children and adults will soon be able to freely access the Russian internet without any special restrictions or content. “I truly wish and believe that in the near future, Ukrainian schoolchildren and adults will be able to use the full diversity of the Russian internet space,” he said. Sounds like a dream for those who love Russian propaganda, but for others – just another attempt to erase Ukrainian sovereignty from reality.
What Does This Mean for Ukraine?
This statement comes at a time when the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is ongoing, and questions of identity, sovereignty, and history are at the heart of the conflict. Is Medinsky just another voice trying to rewrite history and impose a Kremlin-friendly narrative? Or is this a sincere wish for unity? The reality is that millions of Ukrainians do not see themselves as part of “one people” with Russians, but as an independent nation with its own history and right to self-determination.
Is This Just the Beginning?
If Medinsky continues to push this story, we can expect even more attempts to suppress Ukrainian culture and identity under the heavy pressure of Russian politics. The internet, school curricula, media – all could become tools in this information war. And you? Do you believe Ukrainians and Russians are one people, or is this just another propaganda effort trying to erase borders and identities? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, and remember – history is often a weapon, not just a story from the past!
