International Danube Day in Bačka Palanka: Regatta, Workshops, and a Real River Party!

Get ready for a water and land spectacle! This year, Bačka Palanka is celebrating International Danube Day in the wildest way possible. On the city beach, June 29th from 5 PM, a real river party kicks off for the whole family. Creative workshops, children’s poetry titled “Where the Danube kisses the sky,” exhibitions, ballet performances, a children’s choir, and even a foam party and boat launching — all await the little ones and their parents. The organizers, the Tourist Organization of Bačka Palanka and the local government, have prepared a program that honors Europe’s largest river and its importance to our lives.

But wait, there’s more! This year marks the 15th Vode Vojvodine Regatta, connecting towns and villages along the Bačka canals and the Danube. Around 70 boats sail a route lasting 11 days, with participants coming from Novi Sad, Bački Petrovac, Ruski Krstur, Srpski Miletić, Sombor, Mali Stapar, Apatin, Karavukovo, and Bačka Palanka. The regatta is a true spectacle on the water, ending right in Bačka Palanka, where the final event will be held in the Tikvara Nature Park.

The public water company Vode Vojvodine traditionally marks this day, and this year they’ve prepared a special educational program for children. Workshops about the Danube, afternoon and evening programs — all designed to raise awareness about preserving the river and its importance for our future. If you thought the Danube was just a river, think again — it’s the lifeblood of our region, and Bačka Palanka is where it’s celebrated in style.

So, if you’re nearby, don’t miss the chance to see how the Danube is celebrated — with boats, music, laughter, and education. And yes, if it seems like the Danube is a bit louder today, know that it’s just the river celebrating its day. And you? Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something new about this magnificent river. Or at least enjoy a good party. And if you have a crazy Danube story, feel free to share it — maybe your anecdote will be the hit of the next regatta!
