Mega Storm Hits Split: Disaster That Tore Poljud’s Roof and Sank a Ferry!

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, Split proves you wrong! This morning, the city was hit by a mega storm that dropped the temperature by nearly 10 degrees in just a few minutes and caused chaos like never before. The wind blew like it came straight from hell, and the rain poured as if the sky wanted to wash the entire city away. It all started between 8:47 and 9:06 AM when meteorologists recorded sudden and drastic weather changes. A video from the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries at Marjan Cape shows the sky turning into an apocalyptic spectacle.

But wait, there’s more! During the storm, two ferries collided, and one sank! Yes, you read that right — the ferry Petar Hektorović crashed into two ships, and one ended up at the bottom of the sea. The material damage is massive: Hajduk’s Poljud stadium was severely damaged, the roof almost torn off, and the field completely flooded. The Brodosplit shipyard also suffered heavy damage.

Unfortunately, there were injuries too. Most of them happened at the Marjan beaches, especially in Bene Prva Voda, where several trees were uprooted and city districts like Spinut and Gundulićeva Street were damaged. People were shocked, and many wondered if it was a hurricane or just a classic summer storm. Meteorologists explained it was a classic summer storm but with devastating consequences due to the previous high temperatures.

This mega storm showed how vulnerable we are to nature. While the damage is being assessed and people recover, the question remains — are we ready for such weather shocks that hit us more and more often? If you have a crazy story or were there in person, feel free to drop a comment. Maybe it’s time we all learn how to survive the next mega storm!
