Merima Isaković’s Tragic Car Accident: From Acting Star to Disability and a New Life

Merima Isaković, one of the most talented and beautiful Yugoslav actresses, suffered a tragic car accident that changed her life forever. The day after finishing filming the movie “Another Woman” in 1980, Merima was in a car with her brother and a friend in Belgrade. The driver was a drunk policeman, Predrag Milojević, who caused the accident while returning from a party at the Hotel Jugoslavija. Milojević was so drunk he couldn’t even get out of the car, and as the head of the police, he tried to cover up the accident. Only when the military police arrived did he admit guilt. Merima suffered a severe spinal injury and became paralyzed, her brother had a kidney contusion, and their friend suffered serious head injuries.

She was operated on in Belgrade, but due to poor surgical organization and complications, she had to undergo therapy in Russia, Ukraine, and China. Despite everything, Merima found new love in China, got married, and had a son. Later, she moved to New Zealand, where she continued her life with a disability but did not let it stop her. She learned English, studied psychology, earned a doctorate, and now works as a clinical psychologist helping people who have survived trauma, depression, and other mental health issues.

Merima’s story proves that even from the greatest tragedies, strength and new meaning in life can emerge. Her courage and perseverance inspire everyone facing tough life challenges. So, what do you think? How strong is human will? Or are you more into conspiracy theories about drunk policemen and cover-ups? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s on which side!
