Tonight, the Metropolitan of Budimlja-Nikšić, Metodije, did not hold back in criticizing the officials of Bijelo Polje municipality for their absence at the religious procession held in the city. “I am glad you came to show the first graders of Bijelo Polje where they belong, with their people, the deepest foundations of this city, the foundations we honored today with the procession,” Metodije said. He particularly pointed out the barricades set up on the main street and city square, the first time during a procession, which were placed under the pretext of technical reasons but actually served as obstacles to the church and the people of God. “Do you know why? Because today we celebrate Saint Apostle Peter, to whose confession Christ said He would build His church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. These are not some silly obstacles, but petty human malice,” Metodije stated, clearly indicating the poor state and mood of those who set the obstacles. This sharp criticism comes at a time when processions in Bijelo Polje are held as an expression of religious and national unity, and the absence of local authorities has sparked heated reactions. Metodije called on the people of Bijelo Polje to take example from the mayor of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, who was present at the procession in his city, emphasizing the importance of presence and support for the people in such events. This situation raises questions about the attitude of local authorities towards religious and national manifestations, and whether politicians are ready to stand with their people or retreat to their offices when it matters most.
