Milatović Celebrates the French Revolution and Montenegro’s European Future!
Did you know that July 14th is not just the day the Bastille fell, but the birth of the idea of liberty, equality, and fraternity? Montenegro’s President Jakov Milatović didn’t hold back his praise for these principles during the official reception celebrating France’s national holiday, highlighting how these ideals still shape the world today.
Milatović emphasized that Montenegro understands the price of freedom, with a history written through the struggle to preserve identity and sovereignty. “Freedom isn’t handed on a silver platter; it’s won through courage and unity,” he declared.
He particularly highlighted the strategic partnership with France, which has lasted 15 years and is stronger than ever. France remains one of Montenegro’s most reliable allies, supporting its path toward European Union membership. Milatović quoted Victor Hugo: “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come,” referring to European unity as one of the most powerful ideas of our era.
Beyond political and security cooperation within NATO, Milatović pointed out economic, educational, and cultural ties that deepen the friendship between the two countries. The French language and culture hold a special place in Montenegro, enriching its social landscape.
It was announced that next year, French President Emmanuel Macron will make his first historic visit to Montenegro, further strengthening bilateral relations.
In closing, Milatović raised a glass to France and their shared future, saying: “Long live France! Long live Montenegro! Long live our friendship!”
So, what do you think? Is this friendship the real deal for Montenegro, or just empty words? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s on which side!
Political Compass:
- Milatović’s speech is a classic example of a pro-European, centrist, and mildly authoritarian stance, emphasizing state stability and international cooperation.
