Milatović on July 13: A Pillar of Freedom and a Message Against Injustice

President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović delivered a speech on the occasion of Statehood Day, July 13, emphasizing this date as a symbol of statehood and a pillar of freedom that never bows before the force of injustice and dark ideologies. Milatović reminded that July 13 is not just a holiday but a day when the highest values of freedom, honor, and dignity were embedded in Montenegrin society. He highlighted that the July 13 Uprising was a feat of conscience, deeply rooted in the soul of the people, who, as Njegoš said, do not love chains. The flame of July 13 today lights the path of Montenegro, a country with strong institutions and clear rules that apply equally to all. Milatović stated that Montenegro always chooses reason over revenge, dignity over humiliation, and justice over injustice, with multiethnic harmony and mutual respect being the brightest sparks of society. He stressed that Montenegro’s future lies in building strong, independent, and professional institutions, respecting the constitution, and sustainable economic development, with a clear goal to be part of free and democratic Europe. Milatović called on citizens to build together a common house of justice, security, dignity, and prosperity for every citizen. The speech was held at a ceremonial reception at the Cetinje residence, with Portal Analitika and Mina News additionally recalling historical moments related to July 13, including Montenegro’s international recognition at the Berlin Congress and the significance of the July 13 Uprising as a symbol of resistance and freedom.
