Milatović the Only Montenegrin Top Official at Srebrenica Genocide Commemoration: What’s Behind This Choice?

Exclusive: Milatović the Lone Montenegrin Official at Srebrenica Genocide Commemoration!

Is this shame or courage? While all of Montenegro wonders which of its top officials will pay respects to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, the answer is – only the President Jakov Milatović! Yes, you read that right, only him! While the Montenegrin government sent a delegation led by Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović, no other top state official will attend.

Who is going?

Besides Milatović, the head of diplomacy Ervin Ibrahimović will go to Potočari, but he is part of the government, not the president. The government delegation also includes several ministers and state secretaries: Naida Nišić (social welfare), Majda Adžović (public works), Admir Šahmanović (energy and mining), Maraš Dukaj (public administration), Fatmir Đeka (human and minority rights), Mirsad Azemović (diaspora), and Milutin Butorović (relations with the Parliament).

Why is Milatović the only president attending?

Other top state officials decided not to attend the commemoration. Is it due to political reasons, fear, or something else? Milatović chose to be the only president to pay tribute to the genocide victims. This is a bold move, but it raises the question why others did not follow his example.

What does this decision mean?

Milatović’s solo attendance at such an important event sends a message. Is it a message of courage and respect for the victims or a sign of deep divisions within Montenegro’s political elite? This situation opens many questions about Montenegro’s internal politics and its stance on important historical events.

Commemoration and remembrance

The 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide is a moment when the entire region and the world remember the horrific events of 1995. The burial of seven new victims in Potočari reminds us of the importance of memory and justice. Milatović decided to be there alone, to pay respects and send a clear message.

What do you think?

Is Milatović a hero or is this just a political move? Should other officials be ashamed or follow his lead? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, and don’t be shy to say what you think – this topic deserves a loud conversation!
