Mitar Mirić Opens Up About Career, Money, and Singers Recording Covers

Mitar Mirić, a legend of folk music, has finally opened up about the real cost of a good song and how singers today are recording covers. “I’m not mad, it’s a benefit,” Mitar says, admitting that other singers have returned five or six of his songs, but now there’s a shortage of good songs. “A good song isn’t cheap, it can’t be under 10,000 euros,” reveals the singer who records only one song a year because, as he says, you have to give something to the people.

He reminisces about the old days – no clubs, no tips, concerts and fairs were the main places for performances. Mitar recalls how Šaban Šaulić was the most expensive singer in the 1980s, and he himself invested in his career and finances.

But it wasn’t all easy. Mitar shared how composer Novica Urošević, who created him, resold a song Mitar wanted to release, even though he had already paid for it. Still, Mitar didn’t hold a grudge because Novica was his creator and he sang all his songs at concerts and fairs.

Today, while many singers record covers, Mitar clearly says it’s a way to express themselves, but the song market has become more expensive and demanding. “You have to give something to the people,” he says, enjoying life with his grandchildren and watching the scene change.

If you thought being a singer today was easy, Mitar Mirić proves you wrong – the price of a good song, videos, and investments is high, and true art still seeks its place in the sun. So, what do you think about covers and the real value of music today? Drop a comment, maybe you know a great song that deserves to be heard!
