Just when you think a quarterfinal loss is the end of the world, Montenegro’s young lionesses show how to fight back! After a painful defeat to Germany, the Montenegrin women’s junior handball team didn’t give up. On the contrary, tonight they crushed Hungary and secured a battle for fifth place at the European Championship! Yes, you read that right — fifth place! And all this in front of their home crowd at the Verde hall, proving they are a real force and the future of handball.
By the 5th minute, they had a 4-goal lead, which they mostly maintained throughout the first half. Hungary twice came within one goal, but the lionesses didn’t allow a repeat of the first encounter’s scenario. Elena Mitrović scored two consecutive goals in the 52nd minute to seal the victory. Bojana Peličić was the top scorer with 9 goals, including 5 penalties, while Elena Mitrović and Anđela Guberinić scored 8 and 6 goals respectively.
Next up is another classic — the fight for fifth place against France, the fourth-placed team from last year’s World Championship. This generation of young lionesses has shown they have a bright future and will cause trouble for top teams many times to come.
In the semifinals, Germany faces Spain, and we eagerly await to see how our lionesses will finish this brilliant home tournament. If you love handball and a good fight, this story is for you! And if you have a comment or think France doesn’t stand a chance, feel free to drop a line — let’s see who the real fans are!
