No Miracle Happened, But Montenegro’s Women’s Handball Future Is Bright!

The young lionesses didn’t manage to beat powerhouse Germany in the European Championship quarterfinals, but boy, did they show heart! Under coach Igor Marković, this generation thrilled the crowd at Bemax Arena, where about a thousand fans cheered them on.

Germany, the clear favorite, lived up to expectations. But Montenegro twice held a three-goal lead in the first half and went into halftime leading 14-12. Then, a shaky start to the second half let Germany flip the script.

The young lionesses chased the deficit, tied the game at the 50th minute, and even took the lead for the last time at the 54th minute. However, Germany’s deeper bench and superior quality secured their win and a spot in the semifinals.

Bojana Peličić was a beast, scoring all nine penalty shots. Elena Mitrović netted six goals, and Natalija Lekić added five. Maja Ceklić earned player of the match honors with four goals, matched by Sanja Andrijašević.

This loss isn’t the end—it’s the dawn of a bright future for Montenegro’s women’s handball. This young team proved they can hang with the best and will only get stronger.

So, what do you think? Will these lionesses roar louder next time? Drop your thoughts below—let’s see who’s cheering and who’s doubting!
