Hell on Obilićev Venac!
Early this morning around 5:25 AM, a well-known café on Obilićev Venac in Belgrade caught fire, engulfing about 60 square meters. But this wasn’t just any fire – unofficial reports say it was an attack! Yes, you read that right – someone threw a Molotov cocktail into the venue, and the attackers fled on a motorcycle.
Demolished café, luckily no injuries
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze before 6 AM, and thankfully, no one was hurt. However, the damage is massive – part of the café is completely destroyed, furniture and walls burned, and the entrance door smashed. Employees were inside during the attack but managed to escape. The other part of the café remains intact and continues to serve customers, but only on the terrace due to the strong smell of smoke.
Police on the case – security footage in investigators’ hands
Police have seized security camera footage from inside and around the café to identify the attackers. The investigation is ongoing, and the relevant prosecutor’s office has been notified. It’s speculated that the attackers were young individuals who first broke a window and then threw the Molotov cocktail.
Is Belgrade under siege?
This incident isn’t isolated. Residents of central Belgrade have noticed strange events over the past two days – a man with a knife nearby, and now this attack on a café. Neighbors suspect it might be a turf war or some darker story.
What’s happening to safety in the city center?
As Belgrade wakes up, not only cafés are burning in its heart, but also questions about safety and peace. Will we soon need helmets just to drink coffee?
