Dirty Money and Commissions: Novi Sad at the Heart of a Corruption Scandal!
Novi Sad is shaking again with a scandal that reeks of money laundering and corruption. Two people, L.V. (58) and S.Ž. (53), were arrested on suspicion of illegally extracting a whopping 17 million dinars through the company Manolita Star DOO. Yes, you read that right – 17 million! All this while ordinary people struggle for every penny.
How did they do it?
L.V., as the responsible person of the company, signed loan agreements with individuals. But it wasn’t just any loan – he charged a 10% commission on each loan. And if the borrower didn’t repay on time, annexes to the contracts were signed with an additional 10% commission. So people were paying commission on commission until they repaid the full amount!
S.Ž., according to accusations, helped prepare the documentation for these contracts and annexes, making it look legal but actually aiding this criminal scheme.
Where did the money go?
Out of the total 17 million dinars, part of the money was used to pay social security contributions for L.V. as the company founder, then gross salary for S.Ž., while the rest was used to issue new loans. So the money was circulating in a vicious cycle, and the company gained unlawful financial benefit.
Why is this a problem?
Such actions are not only illegal but also a direct blow to citizens’ trust in the financial system and institutions. While ordinary people struggle to get loans and deal with interest rates, these people were enriching themselves at the expense of negligence and injustice.
What’s next?
The suspects have been detained for 48 hours and will be brought before the competent prosecutor’s office. Still, the question remains – how many such cases are there in Serbia? How much more money is being siphoned from citizens’ pockets in such a sneaky way?
Conclusion
While the fight against corruption is announced as a priority, cases like this show the road is long and thorny. But one thing is clear – as long as there are people ready to exploit the system, there will be such scandals. So, dear readers, next time someone offers you a loan on “favorable terms,” think twice – it might just be another scam.
