Handball Showdown in Podgorica: Montenegrin Women Smash Lithuanians at European Championship Opener!
Podgorica exploded with pride last night! The Montenegrin women’s handball team, led by coach Igor Marković, kicked off the European Championship for players under 19 with a spectacular win over Lithuania at the Bemax Arena.
The first 15 minutes were tight, but then our lionesses showed their teeth. By the 20th minute, they had a three-goal lead and held it through halftime. The second half was a pure power display – scoring 12 goals in just nine minutes, they built a double-digit lead.
Natalija Lekić was a goal-scoring machine with 10 goals, while Sanja Andrijašević, Mia Grujić, Maja Ceklić, and Ksenija Gašević chipped in with several goals each. On the goal, Teodora Rončević made an impressive 13 saves.
This victory is just the first step toward securing one of the top two spots in Group B, which leads to the main round. The next challenge is Denmark, and judging by this start, our girls are ready to set the court on fire!
