Montenegro Film Festival 2023: Record-Breaking Film Explosion in Herceg Novi!
Get ready, film lovers! The 38th Montenegro Film Festival is hitting Herceg Novi from August 23 to 29 with a cinematic spectacle like no other. Over 60 films from Montenegro and the region, featuring a record number of Montenegrin productions, will be showcased in the stunning setting of Kanli Kula fortress and other magical locations.
A Record Year for Montenegrin Cinema! This year, the festival boasts a record number of films from Montenegro, including majority and minority co-productions with Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Montenegrin cinema is on the rise, and audiences will get to see the best from the region.
Three Competitive Selections and Special Programs The festival features three competitive selections and special programs under the slogan “All Colors of Film.” Feature films will be screened at Kanli Kula fortress, while the garden of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić’s house will host documentary films from around the world.
Young Authors and TV Niche A new generation of filmmakers will present their works in the student film selection at Mića Pavlović Square. A special highlight is the “TV Niche” program showcasing the latest TV series productions, alongside a competitive session for young Montenegrin authors.
Film Portraits and Legends Audiences will enjoy special screenings dedicated to legends like drum virtuoso Dragoljub Đuričić, Oscar winner Dušan Vukotić, and the cult music band Haustor. A documentary about the great painter Vojo Stanić will also be featured.
Montenegro Film Rendezvous – Industry Days For the second time, in cooperation with the Montenegrin Film Center, the “Montenegro Film Rendezvous” industry days will gather authors, producers, and selectors from the region, opening doors for new partnerships and co-productions.
Support and Organization The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, the Municipality of Herceg Novi, and the Public Institution of Culture Hercegfest. It is expected to be one of the most important cultural events of the summer in the region.
