Montenegro’s junior women’s handball team finished sixth at the European Championship, despite losing their final match against France. This is the best result in the history of our junior teams at European championships. The players born in 2004 and younger showed huge potential and fighting spirit, especially in the match against the fourth-ranked team in the world, France, where they were equal in the first half and even had a two-goal lead. Despite fatigue and a small rotation, our young lionesses did not give up and closed the gap to just two goals by the end of the game. Bojana Peličić was the player of the match with seven goals, while Vanja Živković and Elena Mitrović also had notable performances. This success gives hope for the future, as an even better performance is expected at the World Championship next year. Although no medal was won, Montenegro has shown it has a bright handball future and can compete with the best in Europe. Will the next steps bring even greater success? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain — these girls are already heroes of our sport.
