Chaos on Montenegrin Roads: Traffic Jams and Closures That Will Drive You Crazy

Welcome to Montenegro, the land where drivers today face a true traffic nightmare! The Auto-Moto Association of Montenegro (AMSCG) warns of increased vehicle frequency, and if you’re planning long trips, better schedule them for early morning or late afternoon. Why? Because roads across the country are in chaos due to numerous works and closures that will drive you nuts.

On the regional road Đurđevića Tara – Mojkovac, at the place called Sokolovina, traffic is completely stopped due to a rockfall. Yes, you read that right – a rock decided to drop onto the road, and now everyone is waiting for this critical spot to be fixed. And that’s not the only place you’ll be stuck. On road R16 Plužine – Virak, traffic is closed from 9 to 12 and 13 to 16 hours due to road resurfacing. A similar situation is on regional road R29 Bar – Kamenički most – Krute, with closures from 8 to 11, 13, and 16 hours due to reconstruction.

Main roads aren’t any better. On M2, sections Ribarevine – Poda – Berane, traffic moves one lane alternately. The same goes for M3 on the Plužine – Jasenovo Polje section, where traffic is controlled by traffic lights. On the Mateševo – Andrijevica road, at Trešnjevik, traffic is stopped during the same time intervals due to road adaptation.

In Podgorica, Vojsavljevića street is closed due to boulevard construction, so vehicles must use alternative routes. On M6, the Pljevlja – Đurđevića Tara section, traffic mode changed from two-way to one-way at work sites. Also, on M6 between Šavnik and Žabljak, traffic will be intermittently changed from 7 to 17 hours due to landslide and ravine repairs.

Ever wondered how complicated it is to drive through Montenegro? Today is a real test of patience and nerves. If you plan a trip, arm yourself with coffee, patience, and maybe a few choice words. And don’t forget to take frequent breaks because you’ll need them to survive this traffic chaos.

If this sounds like a nightmare, you’re not alone. Share your traffic adventures in the comments – maybe together we’ll find a way out of this Montenegrin traffic maze!
