As if that wasn’t enough, a massive wildfire broke out near Grude, making firefighters’ jobs a nightmare due to dry vegetation, strong winds, and inaccessible terrain. The situation is so dire that authorities have deployed an Air Tractor firefighting plane for the first time in western Herzegovina, rented from a company in Osijek. This aircraft has proven crucial in battling the fiery beast. Citizens sought refuge from the scorching heat by the Neretva River, while meteorologists warn of even hotter days ahead. Warnings are in place, and health services report a spike in heat-related emergencies. Train services have been halted due to warped tracks, and firefighters are struggling to prevent the fire from spreading to populated areas.
