Did you know that multinational food companies are literally ripping us off? Yes, you read that right! Croatian MEP Biljana Borzan has raised the alarm about record-high food prices in Eastern Europe, where citizens pay more but earn less. In Germany, a bottle of Coca-Cola sells for €1.89, but in Luxembourg, the same bottle costs a whopping €2.89! And that’s not all – in Poland today, you can buy only 10 eggs for the price you could buy 18 four years ago! In Slovakia, that number dropped from 24 to 10. Bread prices in Croatia have soared by 65%, and meat prices in the Baltic states have risen by 50%! All this while Western countries see price increases below 20%.
This disaster is no accident. Borzan revealed that just 11 multinational companies, including giants like Nestlé, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Pepsico, and Mars, control hundreds of brands and dictate not only prices but also the quantity and quality of products available in different countries. This means they are deliberately pushing us into poverty by selling us more expensive and lower-quality food!
While Europe complains about inflation, these companies are getting richer at our expense. Territorial restrictions on the market cost EU consumers about €19 billion annually! A new law that could fix this problem is expected only next year, meaning we will remain victims of this injustice for a long time.
Just imagine – while you’re cutting back on food, these giants are filling their pockets! Is this fair? Of course not! So it’s time to wake up and start talking about it. If you’re tired of being ripped off, share your thoughts, tell a similar story, or just drop a sarcastic comment. Let’s make our voices heard because if not us, then who?
Welcome to a world where food is not just food, but a weapon of greed!
