A deadly drama unfolded in the village of Bačina near Kruševac. Goran Stamenković, 53, known as a troubled drunk and mentally unstable man, was killed after being run over by a 76-year-old neighbor from a nearby village, S.R. According to unofficial sources, Goran was visibly drunk that day and attacked neighbors with a knife, something he had done multiple times before.
Goran was no ordinary man – he was notorious for causing trouble, setting fires, and was disliked by the villagers. He had recently been released from prison where he served time for theft. His younger son is currently in custody for murder, while his older son passed away several years ago. Goran lived a hard life, often without food or drink, and was frequently seen drunk outside stores.
On the day of the tragedy, Goran, intoxicated, attacked neighbors with a knife, prompting S.R. to run him over with a car. The younger son, who was in prison, was released for four days to bury his father, and the news of his death reached him behind bars.
This tragedy raises many questions about violence, alcoholism, and problems in rural areas. Did the system fail? How could a man with so many problems and violent behavior not receive proper care? And what will happen to a family that has already suffered great losses?
