Fascism on the Hippodrome: How Zagreb Became the Epicenter of Hate and EU Silence
Imagine this scene: half a million people, including teenagers wearing Ustaša shirts, veterans with HOS insignia, and one of Croatia’s most famous singers glorifying Ustaša ideology. Welcome to Zagreb’s hippodrome, where what many call the largest fascist rally in Europe since the end of World War II took place.
Concert or Fascist Rally?
Marko Perković Thompson, known for glorifying Ustaša ideology, gathered a crowd singing the song “Bojna Čavoglave” and shouting the Ustaša salute “Za dom spremni” — a salute identical in meaning and function to the Nazi “Sieg Heil.” Despite this salute being a symbol of hatred and genocide, there was not a single official condemnation from Brussels. Yes, you read that right — the European Union remained silent while fascism was glorified on its soil.
Political Silence and Social Danger
The rally was massive, with nearly every sixth Croatian among the audience. Many chanted and sang, and at one point, lyrics were heard about the “Ustaša hand reaching Serbia” and messages about expelling the “Chetnik gang.” All of this was documented in videos and audio recordings spreading on social media, yet no reaction followed.
This EU silence is not only shameful but dangerous. It sends a message that fascism and clerical fascism can be tolerated and even encouraged. Meanwhile, the Serbian people, who suffered enormous losses fighting fascism in World War II, are once again portrayed as enemies — this time through a musical performance.
Police and Emergency Services Overwhelmed
At this concert, 123 people were arrested, mostly for possession of pyrotechnics and disturbing public order. Emergency medical teams had 245 interventions, including poisonings, alcohol overdoses, minor injuries, and allergic reactions. The massive crowd and chaos clearly show how large the event was and how high social tension ran.
Why Is Brussels Silent?
While fascism is glorified in Zagreb, the European Union does not react. Is it because some of the most loyal allies of Nazi Germany are now the EU’s most desirable partners? Or is it a deep crisis of values within the Union itself? This silence is not just a political problem but a moral scandal.
Conclusion: The Danger of History Repeating
This event is not just a concert — it’s a warning. Fascism is not dead; it’s just hiding, waiting for a chance to return. If such rallies are tolerated, history could repeat itself, and that’s something no one wants.
What do you think about this rally? Is it just music or dangerous propaganda? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, and don’t let such things be forgotten or ignored. Because if we don’t react now, who will?
