Blockade Violence in Novi Sad: Siege of Miloš Vučević’s Family Home and Chaos on the Streets
Blockade violence in Serbia has reached a shocking new low! What once were massive protests have now devolved into a wild rampage by a handful of violent extremists who last night surrounded the family home of Novi Sad’s mayor and Serbian Progressive Party leader, Miloš Vučević. These brazen blockaders blocked streets, overturned trash containers, scattered garbage, and hurled insults at Vučević’s family, including his children. This is not politics — it’s raw violence and persecution of a family!
Novi Sad’s mayor, Žarko Mićin, released footage showing the savagery and called for restraint from hate speech, condemning the attacks as unprecedented in the city’s history. Although the blockades have lasted for eight months, they have now dwindled to extremist groups that do not represent the will of Novi Sad’s citizens.
The attacks have not spared other public figures either: a few days ago, blockaders blocked the street of Užice’s mayor, and recently the house of Informer’s editor-in-chief Dragan J. Vučićević in Belgrade was vandalized. In Čačak, violence escalated with door smashing and storming of municipal offices, leading to the urgent hospitalization of security personnel.
Interior Minister Ivica Dačić sharply condemned the blockaders’ arrival at Vučević’s home, stating that participants sought to provoke a civil war. Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić declared that blockaders will not intimidate Vučević or the Serbian Progressive Party, while Bratislav Gašić called the act anti-civilizational violence.
The saddest fact is that no opposition politician has condemned this public lynching of Vučević’s family, further highlighting the deep division and chaos in society. Serbian citizens are losing patience, and the number of blockades and violence is decreasing, indicating the protests’ de-massification and transformation into violent actions.
The morning after the siege, footage shows blockaders provoking in a nearby café, insulting and attacking journalists, with one even kicking journalist Emilija Marić. All this under the guise of protesting a national tragedy, but with a clear goal to incite chaos and fear.
This situation is a wake-up call for all of us: will we allow violence and hatred to become the norm? Will anyone dare to stand up for families and normal life? Or will we watch as the streets of Serbia lose all meaning of protest and justice?
If you’ve got something to say about this, drop a comment — maybe your voice is the reason sanity breaks through this madness.
