NATO is not backing down in its support for Ukraine, and Croatia has proven to be one of the most reliable allies in this bloody conflict. NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska made it clear that Croatia is committed to the alliance and that support for Ukraine is multifaceted — financial, political, and military. Just last year, allies provided Ukraine with over 50 billion euros in military aid, and in the first six months of this year, an additional 35 billion. Can anyone stop this flow of money and weapons? It doesn’t look like it.
Šekerinska emphasized that NATO supports not only Ukraine’s right to territorial integrity and sovereignty but also its ability to defend itself. Special command centers in Germany and Poland coordinate military aid and learn from the Ukrainian war experience. There is even talk of forming a coalition of volunteers to support Ukraine after a possible ceasefire, aiming to ensure a sustainable and just peace.
While some in Europe were worried about the unpredictability of US President Donald Trump, Šekerinska said there is no cause for concern. Transatlantic unity is clear, and allies have agreed to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP, responding to Trump’s criticisms. Croatia, as part of NATO, is introducing mandatory military service, while other countries choose different approaches — professional armies or conscription, according to their sovereign rights.
All in all, NATO is building a stronger alliance, deterring adversaries, and firmly standing with Ukraine. Croatia is there as a valuable ally and will not back down.
