Storm Alert in Serbia: When Exactly Will the Heavy Rain, Hail, and Gale Hit?

Brace yourselves, Serbia! A cold front is barreling in, promising a full-on weather drama. The Serbian Republic Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) warns that from the evening of Wednesday, July 16th, through the night and into Thursday, July 17th, heavy rainstorms with thunder, hail, and gale-force winds will hit northern and western Serbia, including Vojvodina. We’re talking about a whopping 20 to 40 liters of rain per square meter in a short time! And if that’s not enough, temperatures will plunge by a shocking 10 degrees Celsius. After scorching highs over 30 degrees, finally, some relief — but with a bang.

Meteorologists have issued yellow and orange weather alerts for dangerous conditions. The worst will be overnight Wednesday into Thursday, especially in Vojvodina and western Serbia. Expect strong northwest winds, local hailstorms, and fierce gusts. Even Belgrade won’t escape, with afternoon showers and temperatures dropping from a pleasant 29°C to around 24°C.

This weather shift is a blessing for farmers, as the heavy rains will help crops and reduce fire risks. But RHMZ urges everyone to stay alert and watch for urgent warnings issued an hour or two ahead, because these local storms can be intense and sudden.

Weather radar sites like Vreme Radar already show the cold front moving in from the northwest, crossing Hungary and hitting Serbia around 8 PM Wednesday. Rain will spread quickly from Vojvodina down to central and southern parts of the country on Thursday.

So, forget about sunbathing for a few days. Grab your umbrellas, check your gutters, and get ready for a serious weather rollercoaster!
