Storm Alert in Serbia: Heavy Showers, Hail, and Strong Winds Threaten Central and Southern Regions

Storm Alert in Serbia: Brace Yourself for Weather Chaos!

Starting tonight around 10 PM, the skies over Serbia are set to throw a tantrum. Rain showers and thunderstorms will first hit Belgrade and parts of Vojvodina, then spread across central and southern regions during the night. The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) has issued a warning for adverse weather conditions on July 17. Meteorologists predict locally heavy showers, thunder, strong winds, and even hail.

Where will it hit hardest? Central and southern Serbia are in the danger zone! Expect local severe weather with possible hail and winds strong enough to cause chaos. Meteorologist Marko Čubrilo warns that atmospheric destabilization will begin overnight, starting in the northwest, followed by a cold front bringing a sharp temperature drop and heavy rainfall. Some areas could see up to 40 liters of rain per square meter in a short time!

What’s coming in the next days? Thursday will bring a cool down with highs between 17 and 21°C, while the southeast will still enjoy warmth up to 29°C. Friday may see showers in the north, but most of the country will stay dry. By the end of the week, around July 22, a new heatwave will hit with temperatures soaring between 28 and 37°C! But don’t worry, around July 23, a cold front will break the heat again, bringing more pleasant temperatures between 24 and 28°C.

Drivers, beware! RHMZ urges drivers to be extra cautious during the storm. Warnings for specific locations will be issued one to two hours in advance, so keep an eye on the news and radar images. If you see the weather turning bad, don’t play hero — pull over and wait for the storm to pass.

Why does this matter? These weather swings aren’t just annoying — they can cause serious problems on roads, in agriculture, and daily life. Hail can destroy crops, and strong winds can damage property. That’s why it’s crucial to stay prepared and follow official updates.

Bottom line? Serbia, get ready for a wild weather ride! From tonight through the weekend, expect a rollercoaster of storms, hail, scorching heat, and refreshing cool downs.
