The parking madness in Belgrade continues! The Traffic Secretariat has decided that parking in the Old Town will no longer be charged only on weekdays but also on weekends! Yes, you read that right — Saturdays from 7 AM to 10 PM and Sundays from 7 AM to 2 PM. The purple zone, now expanded to include part of the former red zone, has a maximum parking time of just 30 minutes, with the option to extend. The red zone, formerly yellow, now has a 60-minute limit, again with extension options. Lower Dorćol has a new white zone with a 60-minute parking limit plus the possibility to extend another 60 minutes. All these changes were made based on residents’ initiatives, but the parking conditions for residents remain unchanged. The city boasts that this aims to encourage the use of public transport, cycling, and walking, rather than everyone stuffing cars into the center. For those who absolutely must come by car, there are parking garages and lots with a total of about 3,000 spaces, including Obilićev Venac, Pionirski Park, Zeleni Venac, Masarikova, Rajićeva, Botanical Garden, Palilulska Market, Kalemegdan, Vidin Gate, and Lower Town. So, if you thought parking in Belgrade was already complicated enough, now it’s become even more “fun.” Is this really a step towards sustainable mobility or just another way to empty your wallet? Share your thoughts — maybe together we can figure out how to survive this parking revolution!
