New Phase of Crushing Civic Resistance in Serbia: Repression at Its Peak

Serbia has entered a dark phase of repression unseen for decades. From massive student protests in Belgrade, through brutal arrests and beatings, to the detention of doctors who helped the injured – the government has revealed its true, repressive face. Between June 28 and November 1 alone, hundreds of citizens, mostly students and activists, were detained or arrested. The police stop at nothing – beating people unconscious, blocking emergency medical aid, and attacking journalists to prevent them from doing their job. Even the rector of the University of Belgrade was labeled the “face of evil” and calls were made for his arrest! Independent organizations and NGOs are under constant pressure, with police raiding their offices and confiscating documents. Meanwhile, the authorities spread false accusations of “terrorism” and “inciting civil war.” Elections in Zaječar and Kosjerić were held in an atmosphere of fear, with police and unidentified civilians acting like thugs. This campaign of intimidation and suppression of freedom is alarming and shows Serbia is heading towards authoritarianism. If you think this is far from you, think again – repression is everywhere, and the question is who will be next. What do you think? Is this the end of democracy or just the beginning of a new resistance? Drop a comment, let the voice of the people be heard!
