New York Fireworks Tribute to Thompson Concert: Joke or Misunderstanding?

The fireworks in New York City on the 4th of July sparked a social media frenzy, but not because of American patriotism. Instead, it was due to a hilarious joke by Tomislav Lukač, a 31-year-old priest from Kaštela, known for his witty TikTok posts. Lukač posted a video of the New York fireworks, claiming it was a tribute to the biggest concert in history – the Thompson concert. Yes, you read that right! While thousands enjoyed the fireworks celebrating American Independence Day, Lukač used the moment to joke about the popular Croatian singer Marko Perković Thompson.

What was meant to be a lighthearted joke unleashed a flood of comments. Some were thrilled, expressing love and gratitude, while others immediately understood it was a joke and criticized those who missed the context. “Americans don’t even know where Croatia is, let alone who Thompson is,” some wrote. Others joked that the fireworks were for the 4th of July, not for Thompson’s concert, and politicians and believers joined the debate, adding more spice to the situation.

Meanwhile, in Croatia and worldwide, Thompson held the largest concert in history, gathering tens of thousands of people from Russia, Germany, Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Bulgaria. While some enjoyed the music, others were busy collecting the trash left behind after the massive gathering, highlighting the darker side of such events.

This situation perfectly illustrates how a harmless joke can ignite a social media storm, divide people, and spark debates about patriotism, music, and culture. So, what about you? Did you get the joke, or did you find yourself in one of these groups of commentators? Feel free to drop a comment, maybe you have a hilarious joke or opinion about this fireworks and Thompson too!
