Next Steps of the Opposition After Local Elections in Zaječar and Kosjerić

Local elections in Zaječar and Kosjerić held on June 8 sparked controversy due to opposition claims of voting irregularities. The City Election Commission in Zaječar rejected all opposition complaints, which announced an appeal to a higher court and preparation of criminal charges. The opposition plans a protest in front of the prosecutor’s office and demands annulment of elections at certain polling stations. Representatives of the authorities, including Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, declared victory for the coalition around SNS. Political analyst Cvijetin Milivojević advises the opposition to leave the parliament and stop participating in its work, criticizing them for creating an illusion of democracy that actually helps the authorities. Different media reports emphasize various aspects – the opposition highlights irregularities and the fight for justice, while the authorities emphasize the legitimacy of the elections and the victory of SNS.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning sources emphasize the opposition’s claims of electoral irregularities and the need for protests and legal actions to ensure democratic integrity. They highlight the opposition’s struggle against what they perceive as unfair practices by the ruling party and support the calls for transparency and justice.

Center: Center-leaning sources present a balanced view, reporting both the opposition’s allegations of irregularities and the official results declaring the ruling party’s victory. They focus on the procedural aspects such as the rejection of complaints by the election commission and the planned legal steps by the opposition, without strong bias.

Right: Right-leaning sources emphasize the legitimacy of the election results and the victory of the ruling SNS party. They often criticize the opposition for undermining democratic processes and suggest that the opposition’s actions, such as protests and boycotts, are counterproductive and may weaken political stability.
