Finally! After decades of neglect and being overlooked, the Serbian General Consulate in New York decided to shake things up and host the very first ever official birthday celebration for Nikola Tesla at his historic Long Island home. Yes, you read that right – the first time in history! While many around the world have celebrated Tesla in various ways, this house, where the genius spent part of his life, had never been honored like this before. The event gathered all the big shots – from the diplomatic corps, Serbian diaspora, Serbian Orthodox Church leaders, to the artistic and cultural elite of New York. General Consul Vladimir Božović and Bishop Irinej of Eastern America hosted the event, with Tesla book author Barbara Dadino adding spice with her speech.
Why did it take so long to properly celebrate Tesla where he actually lived? Is this a sign that Serbia and its diaspora are finally realizing how important Tesla is not just for science, but for national pride? While the world tries to remember Tesla as the genius who changed the world, we are only now taking the first step in his own home.
This event is not just a celebration, but a call to action – to ensure Tesla is not forgotten, and that his legacy is preserved and spread. If you thought Tesla was just some old scientist from textbooks, think again! This reception proves his story is still alive, and it’s time for all of us, wherever we are, to raise our voices for Tesla. So, have you ever visited Tesla’s house? Or just heard about him? Drop a comment, let’s see how much Tesla really touches us!
