50 years ago, the Hawaii night bar on Sveti Nikola island was the ultimate hit of the Montenegrin coast, run by the state-owned company Avala which managed about 50 hotels! While tourists today complain about prices and budget carefully, back then boats shuttled guests non-stop to this night club that operated until dawn and was famous for Montenegrin specialties. Was the old state control of tourism better than today’s wild privatization and pricier services? Or is it just nostalgic fairy tale?
