New Serbian Series “Absolute 100” Wows Audience at Karlovy Vary!
At the 59th International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, the spotlight shone on the new Serbian series “Absolute 100.” This six-episode series, based on the 2007 film of the same name by Srđan Golubović, has sparked a wave of excitement among audiences and critics alike.
What is “Absolute 100”? The series follows Sonja, a young woman and Olympic shooting champion, who struggles with the typical problems of modern society. While the original film focused on the male protagonist Saša, played by debutant Vuk Kostić, the series offers a fresh perspective through Sonja’s character, brilliantly portrayed by Anita Ognjanović. The direction is led by Srđan Golubović himself, alongside his former students, with a screenplay by Ivan Knežević, Golubović, Boris Grgurović, Ljubica Luković, and Nađa Petrović.
Why does this series matter? Golubović explained that he wanted to tell a contemporary story about a girl surrounded by men who have left her, reflecting the unfortunate reality of today’s society. Lead actress Anita Ognjanović revealed the role was emotionally demanding, with rehearsals lasting three months and even causing her nightmares during filming. She says this creative pressure helped her deliver a better performance.
Support and Production The series is produced by Telekom Srbija and Firefly Production and is set to premiere soon on RTS. Its world premiere at Karlovy Vary is part of the Proxima competitive selection, featuring 13 films this year, including 4 from the Western Balkans.
What’s next? The series has already attracted significant attention and is expected to become one of the key domestic TV projects in the near future. If you love stories that move you and make you think, “Absolute 100” is a must-watch.
So, what do you think? Is this the series that will shake up the local TV scene or just another attempt? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s in and who’s out!
