Hell is Coming for Journalists in Montenegro!
This morning, Danica Nikolić, the chief editor of M portal, received three new emails filled with death threats. And this is not the first time! For three years, she and her colleagues have been bombarded with dozens of chilling threats and insults. It all started back on September 10th when she first reported the threats to the police. Since then, the police and prosecutors have been investigating, but it seems like nothing is stopping the madness.
Who is Bane La and why is he threatening?
Behind these threats is someone signing as Bane La. This guy is especially pissed off by Danica Nikolić’s statement on TV E, where she talked about the alleged connection between the Škaljari and Kavač criminal clans and the payment for articles on M portal and other media. Bane La is not just threatening death, but also deportation to Serbia!
In one of the emails, he even praises Boris Bogdanović, the head of the Democratic parliamentary club, for his “brutal targeting” of M portal. Bravo, Bogdanović, finally someone believes you!
Police in action, but…
Montenegrin police have identified the country and location from which the emails are sent and established cooperation with Interpol. Still, the threats keep coming. Danica Nikolić forwards every threatening email to the police, but fighting high-tech crime is proving harder than expected.
Why does this matter?
This is not just an attack on one journalist. It’s an attack on media freedom and the right to truth in Montenegro. When criminal clans and politicians start controlling the media through threats and intimidation, the whole country is at risk.
What’s next?
Will the police manage to stop this campaign of threats? Will the state protect its journalists or leave them at the mercy of criminals? These are questions we all need to ask.
