Novi Sad has turned into a chaos hotspot! Citizens have blocked nine intersections across the city, starting at the University campus where a large crowd gathered. Protesters then marched towards the Novi Sad police headquarters and finally stopped at the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) office, smashing windows and throwing eggs at the premises. To make matters worse, students were physically attacked, leading to the resignation of Miloš Vučević as prime minister.
The blockades were organized in response to the arrests of students following a massive protest in Belgrade that lasted all day. Protesters used trash containers, construction fences, and metal racks to build barricades at key intersections, including the one near the Promenada shopping center and the Vojvodina stadium. Chants of “Everyone to the streets!”, “Call elections!”, and “We want elections!” echoed through the city as citizens and students showed they were ready for anything.
This wave of protests is not limited to Novi Sad. In Belgrade, clashes between demonstrators and police continue, with Western agencies reporting the use of tear gas and stun grenades by police. Protesters demand an end to President Aleksandar Vučić’s 12-year rule, while confrontations between protesters and government supporters unfold in the city center.
All this shows Serbia is on the brink of an explosion of discontent. Will the authorities manage to calm the situation, or will protests spread and escalate into something much bigger? One thing is clear — the streets of Novi Sad and Belgrade are no longer the same, and citizens have sent a clear message: they want change, and they want it now!
If you think this is the end, think again. This drama is just beginning. So, what do you think — will the blockades and protests bring real change, or will it all end up as just another political show? Drop a comment, let’s see who’s ready for a revolution and who prefers to watch quietly from the sidelines!
