Novi Sad Canopy Collapse: Who’s to Blame and Why Is Justice Delayed?

The tragedy in Novi Sad caused by the collapse of a canopy has shocked the public, and now the real drama behind the scenes of the justice system is coming to light! The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, which initially led the investigation, has stepped back and handed the case over to the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office. Why? Because the accused – manager Slobodanka K., commission president Milutin S., and commission member Biljana K. – allegedly failed to conduct an extraordinary inspection and notice signs of cracks that preceded the canopy collapse! If they had done their job just a little better, this tragedy might have been prevented. But no, now everything is being passed to another institution, leaving the victims’ families and the public in uncertainty.

The investigation started on February 19, and the indictment was filed on March 4, but justice is still pending. The Higher Court in Belgrade confirmed the indictment, but the case was transferred to the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office for more efficient handling. Is this just bureaucratic maneuvering or a real necessity? Additionally, there are indications of a possible terrorism-related crime, which further complicates the situation.

This situation casts a shadow over the efficiency of the justice system and raises the question: how ready are our authorities to confront corruption and accountability? Will those responsible for this tragedy truly be punished, or will everything remain on paper? While we wait for answers, one can’t help but wonder – how many more such failures must occur before someone finally takes responsibility?
