Novi Sad Canopy Scandal: Why Is the Prosecutor Erasing Evidence?

Have you heard about the latest scandal shaking Novi Sad? Vladimir Gajić, president of the People’s Party and a lawyer, openly questions why Supreme Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac removed the report of the Assembly of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure from the investigation into the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station. Let’s repeat – the report, adopted by the Assembly on July 26 last year, clearly confirms that the works on the second phase of the reconstruction of the railway station were completed on July 5 of the same year! This means the canopy that fell was part of an officially completed investment, carried out by a consortium of Chinese railways. But Prosecutor Dolovac and her Novi Sad associates decided to erase this key evidence from the investigation. Why? Is justice in Serbia just a game of power?

The president of the Assembly of the Railway Infrastructure, Prof. Dr. Nebojša Bojović, was neither under investigation nor called to give a statement, even though he was head of the system. He resigned after the canopy collapse but never gave citizens answers about what really happened. Instead, the prosecution acts as if justice is about who decides who will be held accountable, not what the truth is.

To make matters worse, Bojović was seen enjoying himself in a capital city restaurant with blockade leaders and former athletes while the case is being covered up. All this casts a serious shadow over the work of judicial bodies and raises the question – who do they really serve?

If you think this is just another ordinary case, think again. This affair shows how power and influence are used to hide responsibility while citizens are left without justice. What do you think? Is justice in Serbia only for those with connections? Drop a comment and let’s see how many of us refuse to stay silent!
