New City Cemetery in Podgorica: A 50 Year Solution or Just Another Forgotten Project?

New City Cemetery in Podgorica: A 50-Year Solution or Just Another Forgotten Project?

Podgorica has finally found an answer to one of its pressing problems – a place for eternal rest. The new city cemetery at Ćemovsko Polje spans 12.9 hectares and is planned to include 18 tombs and 39 burial plots, along with parking spaces. The mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, visited the construction site and announced that the work is progressing as planned, with all chapels expected to be operational by July 1st.

How much does eternal peace cost?

About 2.5 million euros have been allocated from the city budget for this project. Yes, you read that right – 2.5 million euros for a cemetery that is supposed to solve Podgorica’s burial problem for the next 50 years. Is that a lot or a little? It depends on your perspective, but it’s certainly a significant amount for something you don’t see until you need it.

What does the new cemetery include?

Besides tombs and burial plots, the surrounding facilities are completed – office spaces, a flower shop, and similar amenities to facilitate the organization and maintenance of the cemetery. Parking spaces are also planned because, of course, even cemeteries need parking.

Is this really a solution?

The mayor claims this is a solution for the next 50 years. But is it really? Will other problems arise in the meantime? Or will this project end up like many others – with big promises and little results?

Why is this important?

Podgorica is the capital of Montenegro and, as such, needs an adequate place for burying its citizens. Old capacities are full, and the city has grown. That’s why this project is important for the city’s future and its residents.

Conclusion

The new city cemetery at Ćemovsko Polje is a major project worth 2.5 million euros, intended to solve Podgorica’s burial problem for the next 50 years. The work is on schedule, and all chapels will be operational by July 1st. But the question remains – will this truly be a long-term solution or just another project forgotten until it’s needed?

What do you think? Is this a smart investment or a waste of money? Share your thoughts, maybe together we’ll uncover what’s really behind this “eternal” solution.
