Trial of Ljubodrag Nikolić for Killing Wife Milanka Postponed

Shock and disbelief! Ljubodrag Nikolić (70) from Velika Plana is accused of killing his wife Milanka (65) during their 40th wedding anniversary celebration, and his trial has been postponed again. The crime happened on December 17, 2022, when, according to the indictment, Nikolić, visibly drunk, entered the house and after a heated argument pulled out a hunting rifle and shot his wife. Milanka died on the spot, and illegal weapons were found in Ljubodrag’s possession — besides the rifle, a pistol with 19 bullets was discovered. Although facing up to 15 years in prison, he has been under house arrest in the family home where the crime occurred. The court has repeatedly denied extending his detention, allowing him a lighter sentence with electronic monitoring. The trial is postponed until September, and during the investigation, Ljubodrag remained silent, exercising his right not to defend himself. Neighbors testified that on that fateful day, he was visibly drunk and had a fierce argument with Milanka, who threatened to leave him if he continued drinking. This tragedy raises many questions about justice, safety, and gun laws in Serbia. Is it possible that a man who killed his wife freely walks around the house while awaiting trial? And how can courts not react more strictly? Drop your thoughts — maybe you have the answer to this chilling story.
