Open Air Theatre in Sremska Mitrovica: Culture for All, No Elitism!

Imagine this: Sremska Mitrovica is turning the lapidarium of the Museum of Srem into an open-air theatre stage under the stars! Yes, you read that right. From July 21 to 26, the Summer Theatre Festival “Tragovi” is bringing a spectacle that will make you forget boring summer nights. And it’s all completely free!

This event is not just a rerun of old plays, but a real chance to enjoy premieres and guest performances of new dramatic works. Four plays and two public readings, featuring actors like Ivan Tomašević, Uroš Mladenović, Jelica Brestovac, and Tatjana Kecman, promise to make you laugh, cry, and think.

From the comedy “Zoran Radmilović” to touching motifs from the life of Srđan Aleksić, through public readings of contemporary texts, to a play about Queen Natalija Obrenović — the program is diverse and rich. And if the weather turns bad, don’t worry — the performances will move indoors to the Dobrica Milutinović Theatre hall.

This festival sends a clear message: culture is not just for the elite, but for everyone. Sremska Mitrovica strives to become a place where art lives and breathes with its citizens, not just a closed stage for the chosen few.

So, if you’re nearby, don’t miss the chance to be part of this cultural spectacle. And yes, admission is free — because culture should be accessible to all, not just those with deep pockets.

Now, dear readers, what do you think about such events? Is culture really accessible to everyone or is it still a privilege? Drop a comment, share your experiences, or just crack a good theatre joke — you know we love a good story!
