Only seven days left until the grand opening of the new section of the Miloš Veliki highway, connecting Pakovraće and Požega, and it’s nothing short of a construction marvel! Stretching 19.5 kilometers through the mountainous terrain of Western Serbia, this segment is one of the most challenging infrastructure projects in the last decade. The tunnels “Laz” and “Munji Brdo,” nearly 2.8 kilometers long, are the longest in Serbia and equipped with state-of-the-art electronic and safety systems. The tunnel operations center, managing traffic in both tunnels, will have ten people on duty 24/7, supported by fire trucks, ambulances, and police, ensuring maximum safety for drivers.
But this isn’t just a technical feat — it’s an economic game-changer for the region. Three interchanges — Pakovraće, Lučani, and Prilipac — connect the highway to main and state roads, easing access and the flow of goods and people. The mayor of Lučani, Milivoje Dolović, highlights that the highway will spur the development of a new industrial zone spanning several hectares, giving a strong boost to the local economy and tourism, especially ahead of the 64th Guča Trumpet Festival.
Materials used in construction underwent over 70 different laboratory tests, including concrete, stone, asphalt, and reinforcement, guaranteeing quality and durability. Bridges and viaducts on the route overcome deep gorges and hills, making this stretch a true engineering masterpiece.
All eyes are on June 27th, when Serbia will gain another modern highway that will significantly improve life in Western Serbia and speed up the movement of goods and passengers. If you thought this was just another road, think again — this is the dawn of a new era for this part of the country. So, what do you think? Will this highway really change the game, or is it just another expensive construction project? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s optimistic and who’s skeptical!
